Yeah, yeah, the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of King Lear with Sir Ian McKellan will be making one of its three U.S. stops in Los Angeles but the real, big, ass theatre news in our fair town is that Point Break LIVE! will open on October 12th for Friday and Saturday shows at 8:00 pm.

Are you kidding me?  I thought it was great news when it was announced that there might be a Point Break sequel.  Seeing the original masterpiece on TV and reliving the action and drama of Johnny Utah, the former quarterback at Ohio State University turned FBI agent, as he is lured into a ring of extreme sports bank robbers led by Bodhi Sattva, the charismatic Zen and surf master, is a treat in itself.  To see it LIVE on stage is a notion far too sublime to even consider.  Plus, the Keanu Reeves role will be selected from the audience at random every night -

…with the lucky winner reading their entire script off of cue-cards. This method manages to capture the rawness of a Keanu Reeves performance even from those who generally think themselves incapable of acting.

Is this fucking blowing your mind yet?  I don’t even know how I’ve been able to continue typing.

By the way, Hot Fuzz is worth seeing because of the “ever fired your gun in air while shouting ‘aaaarrrrgh!’?” gag.  It had me in stitches.

If you don’t know, you better axe someone.

Or click play on the video.  It’s at the end.  But watch the whole chase.  Don’t miss Keanu kicking the dog.

Hot Fuzz fun fact. If you watch the tour extra, you’ll see the lads at the Brattle, watching their flick backwards behind the screen, thanks to the wonders of rear projection. Watching Dalton taking a steeple through the chin backwards? Good times.
