Cinetrix has a post today about the impending release of the Criterion Collection’s edition of Kicking and Screaming on August 22nd. (a personal aside: I actually never knew the title of the film and had referred to it as The Vassar College Graduation Movie for a spell. In retrospect, it could be any small liberal artsy fartsy college’s graduation movie but considering Noah Baumbach’s affiliation and its constant, and I mean constant, showings in TV rooms around campus, I assumed that it was about us).

But that’s not really the news. It seems like Criterion’s tentpole DVDs like Armageddon and The Rock aren’t paying the bills because in her post, cinetrix also points us to Criterion’s new hipster t-shirt line. She writes:

See, Criterion has also rolled out its own line of American Apparel t-shirts. Rock the minimalist Criterion “C” logo or else kick the old skool Janus two-faced look. Either one says, “I’m down with Langlois, oui. Yeah, you know me.”

The last line is one of the reasons why I love Cinetrix: you can always count on her for a great cinema-rap tag (though I might humbly suggest: “Who’s down with Henri, Henri? Yeah, you know me”).

Bonus: browse their catalog and see if you experience the same cognitive dissonance I do when you read: “Fellini, Federico; Tarkovsky, Andrei; Bay, Michael”.

Thanks for the shout-out; I love you, too.

Please note, I had counted on an exaggerated, super-Frenchy gutteral pronunciation of Langlois as “Lan-guh-lhwah,” with the “w” sound of the last syllable sliding nicely into the “wuh” of “Oui.”

I need to get out more, clearly.
